Here’s a list of things I’ve enjoyed on Amazon Prime, Netflix and (maybe) Kanopy. I’m including only lesser-known shows and movies.
Films:
–The White Tiger, 2020.
Engaging lead character in a story exploring the gap between rich and poor in India.
–The Vast of Night, 2020
I’m not a sci-fi fan, but loved this movie for its sympathetic quirky characters.
–El secreto de sus ojos, 2009. Intelligent Argentine thriller. Great chemistry between cast members.
–Even the Rain (También la lluvia),” 2010.
Brilliant movie that looks at the history of European exploitation in the Americas. Great story, great cast.
–Safety Not Guaranteed, 2012. Quirky little romantic comedy. Charming as heck.
Series
–Counterpart, 2017-8. Intelligent spy/sci-fi series. Great writing, great acting.
–Patriot, 2015-8.
Dark humor, quirky. Odd thriller, with lots of beautiful city scenes. First season was excellent. Second one was not quite as good, but still worth watching.
–Rome, 2005-7. Fictional account of Rome from the time of Julius Caesar to Augustus Caesar. Wonderful cast, great dialogue.
